Steering Parts with Fitting Position Front Axle for HOLDEN E SERIES EK, EJ, EH

Nolathane steering parts restore the tight, accurate connection between your EK, EJ, EH E SERIES steering wheel and its front wheels. The range includes steering rack and pinion bushes, idler arms and idler arm bushes, drag link bushes, steering coupling bushes, steering damper bushes and bump steer correction kits. Together, they remove the play, vagueness and wander that worn factory steering components allow, so your EK, EJ, EH E SERIES turns in cleanly, tracks straight and responds the moment you move the wheel.

From everyday passenger cars and classic restorations to hard-working 4WDs and double cab pick-ups, Nolathane steering components are practical repair and upgrade solutions, built to outlast the rubber parts they replace.

Why Steering Components Matter

Your steering system is one of the most important safety systems on your vehicle. Every input you make at the wheel passes through a chain of components before it reaches the tyres: the steering column, coupling, steering rack or steering box, linkages, tie rods and knuckles. Each joint and mount in that chain is held in place by bushes.

When those bushes are firm and in good condition, the steering feels precise and connected. When they wear, small amounts of movement build up at each point. Together they create noticeable play at the wheel, delayed response, wandering on the highway, and a vague, disconnected feel that makes the vehicle harder to control, especially in an emergency.

Rack and Pinion vs Steering Box Systems

Vehicles use two main types of steering system, and each relies on different components.

Rack and pinion steering is used on most modern passenger cars, SUVs and many independent front suspension 4WDs and pick-ups. The steering column turns a pinion gear that moves a horizontal rack from side to side, pushing and pulling the tie rods to steer the wheels. The rack is bolted to the subframe or body through rack mount bushes, which must hold it firmly in place.

Steering box systems are common on older vehicles, classic cars and many solid-axle 4WDs. The steering box drives a pitman arm, which moves a drag link and centre link. An idler arm supports the opposite side of the linkage on many designs, keeping it level and correctly positioned. On solid-axle 4WDs, a steering damper is often fitted to absorb kickback from rough terrain.

Knowing which system your EK, EJ, EH E SERIES uses helps you identify which steering parts need attention.

Nolathane Steering Parts Range for the EK, EJ, EH E SERIES

Steering Rack and Pinion Bushes

Steering rack mount bushes hold the steering rack firmly to the subframe or body. When they wear, the rack can shift sideways under steering load before the wheels respond, creating a delayed, vague feel. Nolathane steering rack bushes locate the rack precisely, for more direct steering response and better feedback. Shaft guide bushes are also available for applicable vehicles.

Idler Arms and Idler Arm Bushes

On steering box systems, the idler arm supports the steering linkage opposite the pitman arm. A worn idler arm or bush lets the linkage drop and move, causing play, wander and uneven tyre wear. Nolathane idler arm bushes and replacement idler arms restore correct linkage support and geometry.

Drag Link Bushes

The drag link transfers movement from the steering box to the steering linkage or knuckle. Worn drag link bushes add free play and reduce steering precision. Nolathane drag link bushes restore a firm, accurate connection.

Steering Coupling Bushes

The steering coupling, or rag joint, connects the steering column to the steering box or rack. Worn coupling bushes create play and a loose, disconnected feel at the wheel. Nolathane steering coupling bushes restore direct, accurate steering input.

Steering Damper Bushes

Steering dampers absorb shock and kickback through the steering, especially on 4WDs driving on corrugations and rough tracks. Firm damper bushes keep the damper working effectively, improving steering stability and road feel.

Bump Steer Correction Kits

Bump steer is unwanted steering movement caused by suspension travel, where the wheels steer themselves as the suspension compresses and extends. It?s common on lowered and lifted vehicles, where tie rod angles have changed. Nolathane bump steer correction kits and steering knuckle kits for applicable vehicles restore correct steering geometry, so the vehicle stays stable and tracks true over bumps.

Signs of Worn EK, EJ, EH E SERIES Steering Parts

• Free play at the steering wheel before the wheels respond
• Loose steering, or a vague feel around the centre position
• The vehicle wandering or needing constant correction on the highway
• Clunks or knocks through the steering when turning or going over bumps
• Steering kickback or shimmy on rough roads
• Uneven or rapid front tyre wear
• The steering wheel not returning to centre cleanly after a turn

Steering components are safety-critical. If you notice any of these symptoms, have the steering system inspected as soon as possible.

Why Steering Parts Wear Out

Modern steering systems work harder than ever. Power steering, aggressive wheel alignment settings, wider wheels and lower-profile tyres all increase the loads passing through steering components. In the engine bay, heat and oil leaks attack rubber steering rack mounts and coupling bushes.

On 4WDs, larger tyres, lift kits, corrugated roads and off-road driving add even more stress. Over time, factory rubber bushes soften, crack and deform, allowing movement that grows with every kilometre.

Steering Parts for 4WDs and Pick-ups

4WDs and double cab pick-ups put steering systems through some of the toughest conditions. Heavier bullbars, larger all-terrain tyres, lifted suspension and repeated impacts on rough tracks all add load.

Nolathane steering rack bushes, idler arm bushes, drag link bushes and steering damper bushes are designed to handle these demands, restoring firm, predictable steering for touring, towing and off-road use. On lifted vehicles, bump steer correction kits help restore steering geometry affected by the change in ride height.

Polyurethane vs Rubber Steering Bushes

Factory steering bushes are usually rubber, chosen to isolate vibration. But rubber deflects under load and breaks down with heat, oil and age. Nolathane polyurethane steering bushes use a superior formulation with outstanding elasticity, memory and durability. They resist oil, grease, ozone and weathering, and deliver positive steering precision and feedback that lasts far longer than rubber.

Aftermarket Steering Parts vs Factory Replacements

Factory replacement steering parts are designed to restore original performance, often using the same rubber materials that wore out in the first place. Quality aftermarket steering parts, such as Nolathane polyurethane bushes, are designed as direct repair and upgrade solutions. They restore correct fitment while improving on the original design with stronger, longer-lasting materials. For older vehicles where factory parts are no longer available, aftermarket parts are often the only practical way to restore the steering system.

EK, EJ, EH E SERIES Installation and Wheel Alignment

Nolathane steering parts are designed for accurate fitment by professional workshops and experienced home mechanics with a sound understanding of steering systems. Because steering is safety-critical, follow the vehicle manufacturer?s procedures, tighten all fasteners to the specified torque, and use new locking nuts or split pins where required.

A wheel alignment is essential after replacing steering components, to set toe correctly and keep the vehicle tracking straight.

Who Nolathane Steering Parts Suit

Nolathane steering parts suit drivers experiencing steering play, wander or vague cornering, and 4WD and pick-up owners restoring steering precision after heavy use, towing or off-road driving. They?re also ideal for owners of lowered or lifted vehicles correcting bump steer, classic car restorers replacing worn steering bushes and idler arms, and workshops carrying out steering system servicing and repairs.
