Nolathane brake line kits are a simple way to make sure your brake lines stay safe after a suspension lift. Our brake line extension kits use easy-to-fit spacers to reposition the brake line mounts, giving the lines the extra reach they need, so they aren?t stretched when the suspension drops to full droop.
The range also includes proportioning valve extension bolt kits, which restore the valve?s correct position after a lift to help keep front-to-rear brake balance where it should be. Developed alongside Nolathane?s lift kits, these kits help you complete every suspension upgrade safely.
Why Brake Lines Need Attention After a Lift
Flexible brake lines, or hoses, connect the rigid brake pipes on the chassis to the brakes at each wheel. They?re designed with enough slack for the factory suspension travel.
When a vehicle is lifted, the axle or hub sits further from the chassis, especially at full droop, when the wheels hang down over a crest or washout, or while the vehicle is on a hoist. On some vehicles, the standard brake lines can be pulled tight once the suspension is raised. Lines that are stretched repeatedly can fatigue, crack or pull at their fittings, and in the worst case fail, leading to a loss of braking.
Brake Line Extension Mount Kits
Brake line extension mount kits fit simple spacers between the brake line mounting bracket and the chassis or body. Lowering the mount gives the standard brake line more slack through the full range of suspension travel, without replacing the hose.
The kits are quick to install, keep the original brake lines in place, and suit vehicles where the factory lines need only a little more reach after a modest lift.
Proportioning Valve Extension Bolt Kits
Many pick-ups and commercial vehicles use a proportioning valve, or load sensing valve, to balance braking force between the front and rear axles according to load. The valve is usually mounted on the chassis and linked to the rear axle.
After a lift, the increased distance between the chassis and axle can change the valve?s reading, which can affect rear braking performance. Proportioning valve extension bolt kits reposition the valve to suit the new ride height, helping keep brake force distribution balanced and consistent.
Extension Kits vs Extended Brake Lines
There are two main ways to give brake lines more reach after a lift:
- Extension mount kits reposition the existing mounts using spacers, so the standard lines have more slack. They?re well suited to modest lifts.
- Extended brake lines replace the factory flexible hoses with longer hoses, in rubber or braided construction. They?re typically used for larger lifts and long-travel suspension, where spacers alone can?t provide enough reach.
Too little reach risks stretching, while too much slack can let lines catch on suspension parts or debris and tear. Choose the solution that suits your lift height and suspension travel.
Choosing the Right Brake Line Kit
- Match your vehicle: each kit is designed for specific vehicles and fitting positions. Check the listing for your make, model and axle.
- Check quantities: some vehicles need kits for both the front and rear, or for both sides. Confirm how many kits your vehicle needs before ordering.
- Consider your lift height: extension mount kits suit modest lifts. Larger lifts may need extended brake lines.
- Check the valve: if your vehicle has a proportioning or load sensing valve, consider a valve extension bolt kit as well.
Each listing shows the vehicle, fitting position and kit contents.
Fitting a Brake Line Extension Kit
Nolathane brake line kits are designed for straightforward fitment by professional workshops and experienced home mechanics. As a general guide:
- Support the vehicle safely, with the suspension able to reach full droop.
- Unbolt the brake line mounting bracket, fit the spacer, and secure it with the hardware supplied.
- Where fitted, reposition the proportioning valve using the extension bolt kit, and adjust it to the manufacturer?s specification.
- Check that the brake lines don?t twist or kink, and that they clear the springs, shocks, tyres and chassis.
- Turn the steering from lock to lock and check that the front lines have enough slack throughout.
Brakes are safety-critical. If any hydraulic fittings are disturbed, bleed the brakes, and have the system checked by a qualified mechanic if you?re unsure.
Completing a Safe Lift
Brake lines are just one of the components to check after a lift. Handbrake cables and ABS sensor leads can also be stretched at full droop, and wheel alignment, headlight aim and shock absorber travel should all be checked. Addressing everything together helps your lifted vehicle stay safe and reliable on and off the road.
Who Nolathane Brake Line Kits Suit
Nolathane brake line kits suit owners of lifted 4WDs, dual cab pick-ups whose brake lines are tight at full droop, and drivers fitting a lift kit who want a complete, safe installation. They?re also used on pick-ups and commercials with proportioning valves affected by a ride height change, and by workshops carrying out suspension lift installations.
