Differential Bushings with Fitting Position Rear for 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback Limited

Subaru Legacy Differential bushings are the platform-specific polyurethane bushing kits used to replace worn or deteriorated rubber components at the front and rear differential mount positions. The differential housing is secured to the chassis, subframe or cradle through a system of mount bushings at the front and rear mount positions, and on applicable platforms, through a moustache bar or carrier crossmember that provides additional lateral and longitudinal location. Together these bushings control how the differential is located under the torque reversals, acceleration loads and road shock that the driveline transmits through the mount positions continuously during use.

As differential mount bushings wear, the differential housing begins to shift under load, introducing drivetrain clunk under acceleration and deceleration, driveline shudder, axle hop under power and the progressive looseness at the differential mount interface that transmits NVH into the chassis and accelerates wear at adjacent driveline components. The differential bushings range covers differential carrier mount sets, rear differential to subframe mount kits, rear differential mount bushing sets, center support bushings, moustache bar bushing sets, motorsport specification mount bushings, standard mount bushings, front mount bushings in multiple tube lengths, rear differential rear bushing kits, pinion mount grommets, differential mount in cradle bushings in multiple tube lengths, front and rear insert bushings, front differential mount bushings for 4WD platforms, positive power kits, and combined rear differential and moustache bar bushing sets. All products are backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Why Upgrade Subaru Legacy Suspension?

Differential mount bushings on RWD and AWD performance, truck and off-road platforms are subject to the full torque output of the engine at every acceleration event, and the abrupt torque reversal at every lift-off and braking input. Factory rubber mount bushings that have softened or cracked beyond their designed compliance range allow the differential to rock at the mount positions under each load reversal, producing the characteristic clunk and shudder that is one of the most recognizable symptoms of worn differential mounts. On platforms used for towing, off-road driving or performance use, this deterioration is significantly accelerated by the elevated and more frequent load cycling that these applications demand.

Renewing Subaru Legacy differential mount bushings with correctly specified polyurethane alternatives restores correct differential location under all load conditions, eliminating mount movement and the clunk, shudder and NVH it produces. For performance and motorsport applications, higher specification mount bushings reduce differential movement more aggressively, delivering more direct and immediate torque transmission with less drivetrain compliance at the mount interface.

Why Purchase Subaru Legacy Differential Bushings?

Differential mount bushing wear is the most direct cause of the drivetrain clunk and shudder that develops on RWD and AWD vehicles as mileage accumulates, and it is a fault that cannot be resolved through driveshaft, axle or U-joint inspection if the mount compliance itself remains uncorrected. Renewing the Subaru Legacy mount bushings restores correct differential location under torque load, eliminates the movement that produces clunk and shudder, and returns the driveline to the correct compliance baseline from which U-joints, axles and the driveshaft all operate as designed.

For performance and motorsport applications, higher specification bushing variants reduce differential housing movement under hard acceleration and braking more aggressively than standard replacement items, delivering the tighter, more direct drivetrain feel that track and performance driving demands without the excessive NVH that solid mounts introduce.

Installation and Support

Subaru Legacy Differential bushing kits are designed for installation at the front and rear differential mount, carrier, cradle and moustache bar positions on applicable platforms. Installation times range from under an hour for simple grommet and insert renewals to four hours for full rear differential to subframe mount kit installations. Installation guides are available across most products. For additional technical assistance, a dedicated support team is available to confirm correct product selection, tube length specification and fitment for the specific platform and differential mount configuration.

Repair and Upgrade

Subaru Legacy Differential bushings are manufactured from high-strength polyurethane engineered to withstand the sustained torque loads, vibration and environmental exposure that differential mount positions are subject to in everyday, performance, towing and off-road use. Motorsport specification variants are manufactured to a higher stiffness profile for applications requiring maximum differential location under extreme torque and load cycling. Insert-style products install into the existing mount shell without requiring housing removal, reducing installation complexity on applicable platforms. All products are backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Who Subaru Legacy Differential Bushings Are For

Subaru Legacy Differential bushings are a practical solution for:

• Professional shops completing drivetrain servicing and rear suspension overhauls on applicable RWD, 4WD and AWD platforms requiring correct differential mount bushing renewal to eliminate drivetrain clunk, reduce NVH and restore correct differential location under all load conditions.
• Performance and enthusiast vehicle owners renewing differential mount bushings on applicable RWD and AWD platforms to eliminate drivetrain shudder, improve acceleration stability and reduce mount-induced clunk on street and track applications.
• Motorsport and track drivers requiring higher specification differential mount bushings on applicable performance platforms to minimize differential housing movement and deliver the tightest possible drivetrain response under hard acceleration and braking.
• 4WD and truck owners renewing front or rear differential mount bushings to restore correct driveline compliance and eliminate mount-induced NVH under sustained towing, loading and off-road use.

The right differential bushing kit restores correct differential location under every torque and load condition, eliminates mount-induced drivetrain clunk and shudder, and delivers a more direct, stable and controlled driveline feel from every throttle and braking input.
