Leaf Spring Shackle Bushing with Fitting Position Front, Rear for 1983 American Motors Eagle Base

American Motors Eagle Leaf spring shackle bushings are the platform-specific and dimensionally specified polyurethane bushing kits used to replace worn rubber bushings at the shackle pivot positions of the front and rear leaf spring assembly. The rear shackle is the pivoting link at the rear spring eye that allows the leaf spring to change its effective length as it deflects under load, and the frame shackle bushings at the chassis attachment points are the pivot positions through which the shackle articulates as the spring cycles. Together the spring eye bushings, shackle bushings and frame shackle bushings define the full articulation path of the rear spring assembly and the precision with which the axle is located longitudinally at every point in its travel.

As shackle and frame shackle bushings wear, play develops at each pivot interface, allowing the shackle to knock and clunk over road inputs, reducing spring articulation control and contributing to the rear end looseness that progressive shackle bushing wear introduces. Combined spring eye and shackle bushing kits address every pivot position in the spring assembly simultaneously, ensuring the full articulation path is renewed in a single service. The range covers front and rear leaf spring and shackle bushing kits in platform-specific and dimensionally specified profiles, front and rear combined kits, frame shackle bushing kits, standalone spring shackle bushings in dimensional OD specifications, greaseable shackle bushing and hardware kits, shackle pin kits, shackle sets and a bulk universal kit. Warranties range from limited lifetime to 3 years. Installation guides are available across most products.

Why Upgrade American Motors Eagle Suspension?

Shackle bushing wear is one of the most commonly encountered forms of leaf spring suspension deterioration on high-mileage trucks and 4WDs. The shackle is the highest-articulation component in the leaf spring assembly, pivoting through a greater angular range than the front eye with every suspension compression and rebound event. On vehicles used for towing, hauling or off-road driving, the shackle operates under elevated and more frequent loads that accelerate bushing wear beyond what age and normal use alone would produce.

Worn shackle bushings introduce play at the pivot interfaces that manifests as the characteristic clunk or knock from the rear of the vehicle over small road inputs, and as increased rear end compliance under lateral and longitudinal load. Renewing American Motors Eagle shackle and spring eye bushing positions together restores correct pivot compliance throughout the full spring assembly articulation path, eliminating shackle noise and rear end looseness and returning consistent, stable and controlled rear suspension behavior under all load and driving conditions.

Why Purchase American Motors Eagle Leaf Spring Shackle Bushings?

Combined spring eye and shackle bushing kits that address every pivot position in the spring assembly simultaneously deliver the most complete and consistent renewal of the rear spring articulation path in a single service, eliminating the compliance mismatch that results from renewing only selected positions while others remain worn. For high-mileage trucks that have developed shackle knock and rear end looseness, a complete kit is the most efficient path to restoring correct rear suspension behavior in a single installation.

American Motors Eagle Greaseable shackle hardware kits deliver a long-term serviceability benefit by converting the shackle pivot to a maintainable design, allowing the shackle pin to be periodically re-lubricated to prevent seizing and extend the service life of the bushing installation. Dimensional specifications across the range allow the correct bushing profile to be matched by main eye ID, shackle OD or frame shackle ID on platforms where a platform-specific kit is not required.

Installation and Support

American Motors Eagle Leaf spring shackle bushing kits are designed for installation at the front and rear spring eye, shackle and frame shackle pivot positions on applicable platforms. Installation times range from under an hour for simple shackle bushing sets to three hours for complete spring eye and shackle kit installations. The correct kit requires matching the spring configuration, main eye ID or OD, shackle bolt ID and frame shackle design of the specific vehicle. Installation guides are available across most products. For additional technical assistance, a dedicated support team is available to confirm correct product selection and fitment for the specific platform and shackle assembly configuration.

Repair and Upgrade

American Motors Eagle Leaf spring shackle bushings are manufactured from high-strength polyurethane engineered to withstand the angular articulation, sustained load cycling and environmental exposure that shackle and frame shackle pivot positions are subject to in everyday, towing, hauling and off-road use. Polyurethane maintains correct shackle pivot compliance for longer than factory rubber alternatives under the elevated articulation and load inputs that working trucks and 4WDs generate, delivering more consistent rear spring articulation and rear axle location throughout the service life of the installation. Greaseable hardware kits extend service life further by allowing periodic pin lubrication. Warranties range from limited lifetime to 3 years depending on the product.

Who American Motors Eagle Leaf Spring Shackle Bushings Are For

American Motors Eagle Leaf spring shackle bushings are a practical solution for:

• Professional shops completing rear spring servicing and suspension overhauls on applicable RWD and 4WD trucks in standard, extended and crew cab configurations requiring complete spring eye and shackle bushing renewal at all pivot positions to eliminate shackle knock and restore correct rear spring articulation compliance.
• Truck and 4WD owners renewing worn shackle and spring eye bushings to eliminate rear end clunking, restore correct shackle pivot compliance and return stable, consistent rear suspension handling under towing, hauling and off-road conditions.
• Anyone requiring greaseable shackle bushing and hardware kits to convert front or rear shackle assemblies to a maintainable greaseable design on heavily used platforms where long-term shackle serviceability is a priority.
• Shops and DIY users requiring dimensionally specified spring eye and shackle bushing kits matched by main eye ID, shackle OD or frame shackle ID for non-platform-specific or aftermarket shackle applications.

The right leaf spring shackle bushing kit renews every shackle and spring eye pivot position in the assembly, eliminates shackle knock and rear end looseness, and delivers consistent, stable and controlled rear spring articulation under every load and driving condition.
