Body Mount Bushings for 1970 Chevrolet Nova Base

Nolathane body mount bushings replace the worn cushions that sit between the body and frame of your Chevrolet Nova. Body mounts and cab mounts do two jobs at once: they isolate the cab from frame vibration, and they locate the body so it stays square on the frame while you drive, tow, and work the truck hard.

When those cushions harden, crack, or flatten, the cab starts to move, squeak, and shake on its mounts. A fresh set of polyurethane body mount bushings brings back a firm, quiet connection without the harshness of a solid mount. Each listing shows the mounting positions covered and what comes in the kit.

How Chevrolet Nova Body and Cab Mounts Work

A body-on-frame vehicle is built as two separate structures: a ladder frame that carries the suspension, engine, and drivetrain, and a body or cab bolted on top. Body mounts are the only contact points between them, so everything the frame feels passes through these bushings first.

Each mount position usually stacks an upper and lower cushion around a steel sleeve, clamped through a bracket on the frame and a matching pad on the body. That arrangement handles three tasks:

• Isolation: the cushion absorbs road impacts and engine vibration before they reach the floor, firewall, and steering column
• Location: the mounts hold the cab and bed in their correct positions, which keeps door, hood, and cab-to-bed gaps even
• Frame flex: a ladder frame twists over uneven ground, and the mounts let the body ride through that movement without stress-cracking the sheet metal

Chevrolet Nova Body Mount Positions and Kit Types

Body mount bushing kits are built around how a particular body attaches to its frame. Getting the configuration right matters, because one missing or mismatched position lets the cab rock on the others.

Chevrolet Nova Cab Mount Bushings by Cab Style

Cab mount bushings vary with the cab style. A standard cab usually sits on fewer mount positions than an extended cab, and a crew cab, with its longer floor, often adds another pair toward the rear. Pickups also carry the bed on separate mounts, while an SUV body runs the full length of the frame on one continuous set. That?s why kits are matched to cab and body configuration, not just to the frame.

Radiator Support Bushings

The radiator support, or core support, bolts to the front of the frame on its own small bushings. These carry the weight of the radiator, grille, and front sheet metal, and they wear just as quickly as the cab mounts. Renewing the radiator support bushings at the same time keeps the front panels aligned with the cab and stops the hood gap from wandering.

Oval and Round Mount Profiles

Some body mounts use a round cushion, while others use an oval profile that resists the body twisting on the bracket. The shape is often tied to the cab style or the frame bracket, so check the existing upper mount before ordering, rather than assuming every position on your Chevrolet Nova shares the same profile.

Bushing-Only and Bushing-and-Hardware Kits

A body mount bushing kit can supply the polyurethane cushions and sleeves alone, or add bolts, washers, and other mounting hardware. Each listing shows exactly what?s included, so you can decide early whether to source new bolts or cage nuts separately.

Symptoms of Worn Body Mounts on Your Chevrolet Nova

Body mounts sag and crack slowly, so the signs creep up over months:

• Squeaks and creaks from under the cab, worst over speed bumps and driveway entries
• A dull clunk when you pull away, brake hard, or shift into gear
• Body shake or a shudder through the floor on rough pavement
• The cab visibly moving on the frame when the truck rocks or twists
• Uneven gaps between the cab and the bed, or doors that no longer close cleanly
• Cracked, flattened, or missing rubber visible at the mounts

If several of those show up together, the cushions have most likely compressed enough that the cab is resting on the sleeves rather than on rubber.

Rubber, Polyurethane, Silicone, and Solid Body Mounts for the Chevrolet Nova

The material you choose decides how much vibration reaches the cab and how long the mounts hold their shape. Each option has a fair place.

Rubber is what most trucks leave the factory with. It?s quiet and soft when new, but it takes a compression set over time, meaning it gradually flattens under the steady weight of the body and never springs back. Heat, oil leaks, and road salt speed that up.

Polyurethane is firmer and holds its height far longer under constant load. It resists oil, grease, ozone, and weathering, so cushions near the engine and exhaust last well. The cab feels more connected to the frame, with less rocking and less squeak.

Silicone mounts sit at the softer end, closer to rubber in feel, and suit owners who prioritize comfort over firmness.

Solid body mounts, made from aluminum or another rigid material, remove all cushioning. Comparing solid body mounts vs polyurethane comes down to noise: solid mounts transmit the most road and engine vibration and allow no body flex, which suits dedicated race and rock-crawling builds, while polyurethane keeps a working layer of isolation for a truck that still sees daily miles.

Benefits of Polyurethane Body Mount Bushings on Your Chevrolet Nova

Polyurethane body mount bushings are the middle ground most truck owners want. The firmer material keeps the cab located under hard braking, removing the floating feel of tired rubber.

Resistance to compression set is the real advantage. Because the cushions keep their height, the cab doesn?t slowly settle toward the frame, so panel gaps and steering column angle stay where they should. Nolathane selects the durometer, or hardness grade, for each position, and the high load-bearing capability of the material handles the extra stress of towing, heavy payloads, and off-road use, where the frame twists far more than on pavement.

Choosing Body Mount Bushings for Your Chevrolet Nova

Each listing shows the positions and parts supplied, so compare it against these points.

Cab Style and Drivetrain

Confirm whether you have a standard, extended, or crew cab, and whether your Chevrolet Nova is 2WD or 4x4. Drivetrain can change frame brackets and mount heights, even within the same cab style.

Mount Profile and Position Count

Count the mount positions under your cab and bed, and note any oval or round profiles. A kit that covers every position on your Chevrolet Nova avoids mixing fresh cushions with old ones, which loads the new mounts unevenly.

Hardware Condition

Body mount bolts spend their life exposed to water and salt, so many are corroded. If threads are badly rusted or the cage nuts inside the frame or cab floor are weakened, plan to replace them rather than reuse them.

Replacing Body and Cab Mounts on Your Chevrolet Nova

A capable home mechanic with a floor jack can replace body mounts, but the job rewards patience. As a general guide:

1. Disconnect anything that could be stretched as the body lifts, such as the steering shaft, fuel filler neck, and radiator hoses where needed.
2. Work on one side at a time, loosening every bolt on that side before lifting.
3. Lift the body slowly with a jack and a block of wood under a strong point, raising it only far enough to remove the old cushions.
4. Free seized bolts carefully, using penetrating oil and heat where it?s safe, and inspect each cage nut before going further.
5. Clean the frame brackets and body pads, then fit the new upper and lower cushions with their sleeves seated fully.
6. Lower the body, start every bolt by hand, and tighten to the Chevrolet Nova torque specification.
7. Repeat on the other side, then re-check torque after a short drive.

Don?t over-tighten the bolts. Clamping past the specified torque crushes the cushion and binds the mount, which brings back the harshness and noise the new bushings are meant to cure. Use new hardware wherever the original bolts are corroded.

Chevrolet Nova Body Mount Limitations and Trade-Offs

Polyurethane body mounts are a strong upgrade, but it?s worth being clear about what they won?t do:

• Polyurethane passes slightly more road and engine vibration into the cab than fresh rubber
• The bushings can squeak if they aren?t lubricated where the instructions specify
• New cushions can?t repair rusted mount brackets or rotted frame outriggers
• Seized bolts and cage nuts can turn a half-day job into a much longer one
• Body mount bushings restore the original ride height of the body and don?t provide a body lift

Compliance and Insurance

Body mount replacement with a standard-height kit seldom affects inspection, but body lift and bumper height rules differ between states. Follow the inspection requirements of the state where your Chevrolet Nova is registered, and let your insurance company know about any modifications.

Warranty and Support

The polyurethane bushings are covered by a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects in material and workmanship, which applies while they remain on the truck they were first installed on. Any bolts or washers in a kit are backed by Nolathane?s warranty. If you?re unsure which kit matches your cab style or mount profile, talk to our local support team before ordering.
