Steering Bushings for 2012 Subaru Impreza R

Subaru Impreza Steering bushings are the platform-specific polyurethane bushing kits used to replace worn rubber bushings at the steering rack mount, idler arm and steering coupling positions. The steering rack and pinion is secured to the subframe, crossmember or chassis through a pair of mount bushings that isolate the rack from the chassis while maintaining its correct lateral and longitudinal position relative to the front suspension. The condition of these rack mount bushings directly determines how precisely the rack is located during steering inputs, how much rack movement is transmitted into the chassis as NVH, and whether the steering geometry at the tie rod ends remains consistent under load.

As rack mount bushings wear, the rack is able to shift within its mounts under steering load, introducing vague and inconsistent steering response, steering wheel shimmy and the progressive looseness that worn rack mount compliance introduces between driver input and wheel response. On applicable platforms, idler arm bushings at the idler arm pivot control the precision of steering box-equipped recirculating ball systems, and steering coupling bushings at the intermediate shaft coupling provide the compliant interface that isolates road-transmitted steering inputs from the steering column. The steering bushings range covers power and manual steering rack and pinion mount bushing kits in FWD, RWD and 4WD configurations, a bump steer correction rack mount bushing kit, dimensionally specified and platform-specific rack mount bushings, power steering arm bushings, steering idler bushings, and steering coupling bushings. All products are backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Why Upgrade Subaru Impreza Suspension?

Steering rack mount bushing wear is a frequently overlooked cause of the steering vagueness, shimmy and on-center imprecision that builds gradually on high-mileage vehicles. Because the rack mount bushings are not a commonly scheduled service item and their deterioration is gradual, the steering looseness they introduce is often normalized before the root cause is identified. On vehicles where the rack mounts through rubber bushings into a subframe or crossmember, a worn bushing at either mount position allows the rack to move laterally during steering inputs, introducing a small but measurable lag and looseness in the steering response that worsens as bushing compliance increases.

Renewing Subaru Impreza rack mount bushings with correctly specified polyurethane alternatives restores correct rack location in its mounts, eliminating rack movement under steering load and returning a more precise, direct and connected steering response from the moment of installation. On applicable platforms with recirculating ball steering, idler arm bushing wear is a primary cause of steering wander and play, and renewing the idler pivot bushing is the most direct repair for the looseness that worn idler arm compliance introduces.

Subaru Impreza Steering Bushing Range

The Subaru Impreza steering bushing range includes:

• Subaru Impreza Power Steering Rack and Pinion Mount Bushing Kits: Platform-specific polyurethane bushing kits for the rack mount positions of power steering rack and pinion assemblies on applicable FWD, RWD and 4WD platforms.

• Subaru Impreza Steering Rack and Pinion Mount Bushing Kits, FWD: Rack mount bushing kits for the applicable FWD configuration of the steering rack mount on platforms where the FWD variant uses a distinct mount bushing profile from the RWD variant.
• Subaru Impreza Steering Rack and Pinion Mount Bushing Kits, RWD: Rack mount bushing kits for the applicable RWD configuration of the steering rack mount position on applicable RWD passenger and performance platforms.
• Subaru Impreza Steering Rack and Pinion Mount Bushing Kits, 4WD: Rack mount bushing kits for applicable 4WD platforms where the steering rack mount design or bushing profile differs from the RWD or FWD equivalent.
• Subaru Impreza Steering Rack and Pinion Mount Bushing Kit, Bump Steer Correction: A rack mount bushing kit that introduces a controlled rack height correction to address bump steer on applicable RWD applicable performance platforms where rack position relative to the tie rod arc produces bump steer under suspension travel.
• Subaru Impreza Dimensionally Specified Rack Mount Bushings: Individual rack mount bushings in specific OD dimensions for platforms requiring a dimensionally matched single bushing rather than a full platform-specific kit.
• Subaru Impreza Power Steering Arm Bushings: Polyurethane bushing kits for the power steering arm pivot position on applicable platforms.
• Subaru Impreza Steering Idler Bushings: Polyurethane idler arm pivot bushing kits for applicable platforms with recirculating ball steering systems, available in dimensionally specified and platform-specific front idler variants.
• Subaru Impreza Steering Coupling Bushings: Polyurethane coupling bushing kits for the steering intermediate shaft coupling position on applicable platforms, available in multiple height specifications to match the coupling design of the specific application.

Why Purchase Subaru Impreza Steering Bushings?

Steering rack mount bushing renewal addresses the most direct source of the rack-level looseness and imprecision that high-mileage steering systems develop, and it does so without requiring rack replacement or steering system overhaul. Renewing the mount bushings restores the correct, tightly located mounting that allows the rack to translate driver inputs to the tie rods without lateral movement at the rack body, immediately improving steering precision and on-center feel.

For workshops completing front suspension overhauls on applicable platforms, Subaru Impreza steering rack mount bushing renewal as part of the service ensures the steering system is operating from a correctly located rack, eliminating the looseness that worn mount compliance introduces before other steering geometry work is carried out. Bump steer correction rack mount kits deliver an additional benefit on applicable performance platforms by addressing the bump steer that an incorrectly positioned rack introduces under suspension travel.

Installation and Support

Subaru Impreza Steering bushing kits are designed for installation at the steering rack chassis mount, idler arm pivot and intermediate shaft coupling positions on applicable platforms. Installation times range from under an hour for simple coupling and single-position bushing kits to three hours for full rack mount bushing kit installations. Installation guides are available across most products. For additional technical assistance, a dedicated support team is available to confirm correct product selection, drivetrain configuration and fitment for the specific platform and steering system design.

Repair and Upgrade

Subaru Impreza Steering bushings are manufactured from high-strength polyurethane engineered to withstand the lateral and longitudinal steering loads, vibration and environmental exposure that steering rack mount, idler arm and coupling positions are subject to in everyday and performance driving. Polyurethane maintains correct rack location and mount compliance for longer than factory rubber alternatives under the repeated steering load cycling that rack mount positions experience, delivering more consistent steering precision and reduced rack movement throughout the service life of the installation. All products are backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Who Subaru Impreza Steering Bushings Are For

Subaru Impreza Steering bushings are a practical solution for:

• Professional shops completing front suspension overhauls and steering system servicing on applicable passenger and performance platforms requiring steering rack mount bushing renewal to restore correct rack location and eliminate steering vagueness and shimmy attributable to worn mount compliance.
• Performance and enthusiast vehicle owners renewing steering rack mount bushings to restore precise, direct and connected steering response on applicable RWD and performance platforms.
• Owners of applicable RWD performance platforms requiring bump steer correction rack mount bushing kits to address the bump steer that factory or modified rack positioning introduces under suspension travel.
• Shops and DIY users servicing applicable platforms with recirculating ball steering systems requiring idler arm bushing renewal to reduce steering play and restore more precise steering response.

The right steering bushing kit restores correct rack location or idler pivot compliance at every renewed position, eliminates steering vagueness and shimmy from worn mount compliance, and delivers a more precise, direct and connected steering response from the first mile after installation.
