Universal Bump Stops with Fitting Position Rear for 2012 Ford F-150 FX2

Nolathane universal bump stops cushion the end of suspension travel, protecting your Ford F-150's shocks, springs and chassis when the suspension reaches full compression. A bump stop, also called a jounce bumper, is the last line of defense when a wheel hits a deep dip, a speed bump taken too fast, or a big hit off-road.

The range covers vehicle-specific bump stops for trucks, 4x4s, RVs and cars, along with universal bump stops in a range of profiles and sizes for custom fitments. Each listing shows the profile, dimensions or vehicle fitment.

How Bump Stops Work on the Ford F-150

A bump stop sits between a moving part of the suspension, such as the axle, control arm or strut, and the point on the chassis it would hit at full compression. In normal driving it never touches anything. When the suspension compresses far enough, the moving part contacts the stop before it can reach the chassis.

A good bump stop doesn?t just block the movement. It compresses progressively, getting firmer the further it?s squashed. That absorbs the energy at the end of travel gradually, so the suspension slows to a stop instead of metal striking metal. That progressive cushion is what makes bump stop suspension work: it protects the shock absorbers from bottoming out internally, stops the springs from going coil-bound or flattening, and keeps the axle or arm from hammering the frame.

Types of Ford F-150 Bump Stops

Each listing shows the type.

Axle Bump Stops

On solid-axle trucks and 4x4s, axle bump stops sit on the frame above the axle, front and rear. Rear bump stops take a lot of abuse on trucks that carry loads or tow, because the rear axle sees the biggest changes in weight.

Strut and Upper Bump Stops

On strut suspension, the bump stop sits on the strut shaft or in the upper mount. Adjustable strut bump stops let you set the contact point, which is useful on lowered or modified vehicles.

Control Arm Bump Stops

On independent suspension, the stop is usually mounted on the frame or the control arm, where the arm contacts it at full compression.

Extended Bump Stops

Extended bump stops are taller than standard. On a lifted 4x4, they make sure the suspension contacts the stop before the shocks bottom out or the CV joints reach extreme angles.

Universal Profiles

Universal bump stops come in several shapes, each suited to a different mount and a different feel:

• Bolt-through stops, mounted with a bolt through their center
• Disk stops, which are flat and round, for tight spaces
• Triangular stops, which compress progressively from a narrow tip
• Single-hump stops, a classic rounded profile
• Pull-through stops, which have a tab that pulls through a hole in the mount

Signs of Worn or Missing Bump Stops on Your Ford F-150

Watch for:

• Harsh bottoming over dips and speed bumps
• Metal-on-metal clunks when the suspension reaches full compression
• Cracked, crumbled or missing stops
• Shiny contact marks on the axle, arm or frame where metal has hit metal
• Shocks bottoming internally, often heard as a knock from inside the shock

A missing bump stop is easy to overlook, because the vehicle drives normally until the suspension fully compresses. Check the stops whenever your Ford F-150 is on a lift.

Rubber and Polyurethane Bump Stops for the Ford F-150

Rubber bump stops are common from the factory. But rubber hardens and cracks as it ages, especially when exposed to sunlight, ozone and road grime. Eventually it crumbles, and pieces break away until the stop no longer cushions anything.

Nolathane polyurethane bump stops keep their progressive cushion for longer. Polyurethane resists oil, ozone and weathering, so it holds its shape and doesn?t crumble the way aged rubber does.

Polyurethane is firmer than rubber, so the stop can feel slightly firmer at full compression. For most drivers, that?s a fair trade for a stop that keeps working.

Hydraulic bump stops are a different product, which uses fluid to absorb energy. They aren?t part of this range.

Bump Stops for Trucks, 4x4s and RVs

Bump stops for trucks and RVs work harder than those on a car. Heavy loads and towing compress the rear suspension further, so the rear stops make contact more often. On an RV, the weight is constant, and a good stop protects the chassis every time the vehicle hits a dip.

Off-road, 4x4s use the full range of suspension travel. When one wheel is pushed up hard while the other drops, the bump stop on that corner takes the hit.

Lifts change the equation. A lift kit increases ride height, and often fits longer shocks, which changes where full compression happens. Without extended bump stops, the suspension may compress far enough to bottom out the shocks or bend the CV joints past their safe angle. Extended stops prevent that overtravel and protect the shocks and CV joints.

Choosing Bump Stops for Your Ford F-150

Each listing shows the profile, dimensions or vehicle fitment.

Vehicle-Specific Kits

Where a vehicle-specific kit exists for your Ford F-150, it?s the simplest choice. The stops are made to fit the factory mounts, at the right height for your suspension.

Universal Bump Stops by Profile and Size

For custom builds, or vehicles without a specific kit, choose a universal bump stop by its profile and size. Check the height, the diameter or width, and the mounting method: stud, bolt-through or pull-through. Every universal stop is guaranteed to match the dimensions shown in the listing.

Matching Your Ford F-150?s Lift or Lowered Height

A lifted or lowered vehicle needs stops at the right height for its new travel. Check the clearance at full compression before choosing, so the stop makes contact before anything else does.

Fitting Bump Stops on Your Ford F-150

• Support the vehicle safely
• Remove the old stop and clean the mount
• Fit the new stop with its stud, bolt or pull-through tab
• Set adjustable strut stops to the correct contact point
• Cycle the suspension, or check the clearance at full compression with the springs out where it?s safe to do so

Some strut bump stops require the strut to be disassembled, which means compressing the spring. Compressed springs store a lot of energy and can cause serious injury, so qualified fitting is recommended for that work.

Ford F-150 Bump Stop Limitations and Trade-Offs

• Bump stops limit travel, but they can?t fix worn shocks, sagging springs or the wrong ride height
• Stops that are too tall reduce usable travel and can make the ride harsher
• Universal stops need accurate measuring
• These aren?t hydraulic bump stops

Compliance and Insurance

Follow the lift, lowering and inspection rules of the state where your Ford F-150 is registered, and tell your insurance company about any modifications.
