Adjustable Sway Bar Links with Fitting Position Rear Axle for BMW 2 G87 M2

Nolathane adjustable sway bar links replace worn or incorrectly sized G87 M2 2 factory links with a heavy duty, length-adjustable design. A threaded body and ball joint ends allow each link to be set to the exact length your suspension needs, removing play, eliminating sway bar preload and keeping the bar working at the correct angle on standard, lowered and lifted vehicles.

Each listing shows the adjustable length range, ball joint configuration and fitting position, so you can choose the link that suits your G87 M2 2 or the measurements you have taken.

How Adjustable Sway Bar Links Work

A sway bar, also called an anti-roll bar or stabiliser bar, links the left and right sides of the suspension and resists body roll in corners. The sway bar links (end links) connect each end of the bar to the control arm (wishbone), strut or hub carrier, transmitting the bar?s twisting force into the suspension.

A fixed link has one set length. An adjustable link uses a threaded centre section with locking nuts, so the distance between the two ball joints can be set within a defined range. Once the correct length is found, the lock nuts secure the setting. Heavy duty ball joints at each end allow the link to articulate freely through suspension travel and steering movement, without the softness of rubber-bushed ends.

Why Choose Adjustable Sway Bar Links for Your G87 M2 2

Adjustable links solve problems that a fixed replacement link cannot. They are the right choice when:

• Ride height has changed: Lowering or lifting a vehicle changes the distance between the sway bar and its lower mount. A factory-length link can then hold the bar at the wrong angle, bind at full travel or over-extend at full droop.
• Sway bar preload needs removing: If one link is effectively too long or too short, the bar is twisted even when the vehicle is stationary. Adjustable links allow both sides to be set so the bar sits neutral at ride height.
• An upgraded or relocated sway bar is fitted: Aftermarket bars and different mounting positions often need a link length that differs from the original.
• Worn factory links need replacing: A heavy duty adjustable link removes worn end play and restores a firm sway bar connection, while allowing the length to be fine-tuned.

Performance and Handling Benefits

When the sway bar sits at the correct angle and carries no preload, it works evenly in both directions. Drivers typically notice:

• Sharper, more immediate turn-in as the bar responds without delay.
• Reduced body roll and a flatter, more controlled feel through corners.
• Balanced behaviour in left-hand and right-hand corners, with no tendency to lean or pull to one side.
• A firmer, quieter suspension once worn link ends are removed.

For performance and track-day use, removing preload is especially important. A preloaded bar affects the weight carried by each wheel, which can change grip and balance from one side to the other. Setting the links at ride height, with the driver?s weight considered where appropriate, helps the car behave predictably.

For lifted 4WDs and utes (pick-ups), correctly set links keep the sway bar effective at the new ride height and reduce the risk of the bar or links contacting springs, shocks or brake lines through suspension articulation.

G87 M2 2 Sizing and Specifications

Choosing the right adjustable sway bar link starts with a few key measurements.

Length Range

Measure the centre-to-centre distance between the sway bar mounting hole and the lower mount at normal ride height. Choose a link whose adjustable range comfortably includes that length, ideally near the middle of the range. This leaves room for fine adjustment while keeping plenty of thread engagement on both ends.

Ball Stud Size

The ball stud must suit the holes in the sway bar and the lower mounting bracket. Check the stud diameter and length, and confirm the nut will have full thread engagement once tightened.

Ball Joint Orientation

Ball joints may be horizontal, vertical or a combination, depending on how the link mounts at each end. The orientation must match the mounting points on your vehicle so the joints operate within their designed range of movement. Each listing shows the joint configuration.

Clearance

Check that the link body and ball joints will clear the wheel, tyre, springs, shock absorber and brake lines through full suspension travel and full steering lock.

Fitting and Setting Adjustable Links on Your G87 M2 2

Correct setup is what delivers the benefits of an adjustable link. A typical process is:

1. Park the vehicle on level ground or drive-on ramps, so the suspension is at normal ride height.
2. Remove the old links, keeping track of their orientation.
3. Set both new links to the same starting length, close to the measured distance.
4. Fit one end of each link, then adjust the length until the other ball stud slides into its mounting hole without pushing or pulling the sway bar.
5. Repeat on the other side, aiming for equal lengths so the bar sits level and neutral.
6. Tighten the ball stud nuts to the specified torque, holding the stud with a hex or Torx key so the ball does not spin.
7. Tighten the lock nuts on the threaded body, making sure each ball joint is aligned to its mount and not twisted.

Once fitted, turn the steering from lock to lock and check that nothing binds or rubs. Re-check the lock nuts and stud nuts after the first few hundred kilometres.

Suspension Upgrades and Servicing

Adjustable sway bar links are often fitted as part of a wider suspension project. They pair well with lowering or lift kits, upgraded sway bars, new springs and shock absorbers, and replacement sway bar mount bushes. When servicing, inspect the sway bar mount bushes at the same time, as worn mounts allow the bar to move and reduce the benefit of new links. For vehicles that see off-road use, check the ball joint boots regularly and replace any that are split.

Limitations and Trade-Offs

Adjustable links do not change the sway bar?s stiffness. They help the bar work at its best, but more roll control requires a different sway bar.

Ball joint ends transmit slightly more noise and vibration than soft rubber-bushed ends, although most drivers notice little difference in everyday use. The joints rely on intact boots to keep out dirt and water, so damaged boots shorten their life. Lock nuts must be tightened correctly; a loose adjuster can allow the link to change length or come apart.

Adjustable links should not be used to mask a bent sway bar, damaged mounts or worn suspension components. Inspect the system and repair any faults before setting link length.

Compliance

Sway bars and links affect vehicle stability, so any repair or modification must keep the vehicle safe and within the standards that apply where it is registered. In Australia, requirements vary between states and territories, particularly for lifted or lowered vehicles. In the UK and Europe, suspension condition is checked at the MOT or periodic roadworthiness inspection. Tell your insurer about any suspension modification.

Nolathane Suspension Experience

Nolathane has been making polyurethane suspension bushings since 1974, originally developed to replace brass bushes in hillclimb competition. More than 50 years of developing suspension components for repair, restoration and upgrades has shaped every part in the range, including heavy duty adjustable sway bar links designed for both everyday vehicles and modified setups. Mechanics and DIY owners rely on Nolathane for practical solutions that restore control and improve handling.
