Nolathane fixed sway bar links are direct replacements for worn, noisy or damaged TS 50 TICKFORD factory links. Made to the correct length and joint orientation for each application, they fit straight into the original mounting points with heavy duty ball joints and an uprated centre body, making sway bar link replacement a quick, reliable repair that restores quiet operation and firm roll control.
Each listing shows the link length, ball joint orientation, fitting position and kit contents, so you can match the link to your TS 50 TICKFORD before ordering.
The Job of a Sway Bar End Link
A sway bar, also called an anti-roll bar or stabiliser bar, connects the left and right sides of the suspension to resist body roll in corners. Sway bar end links join each end of the bar to the strut, control arm (wishbone) or axle. As the body leans, the links transfer suspension movement into the bar, which twists and pushes back against the roll.
Because every load passes through them, end links work constantly. They articulate with every bump, every steering input and every change in body attitude. Over time, this repeated movement wears the ball joints, and any impact or excessive load can bend the centre body.
Why Sway Bar Links Fail
Factory links are often designed for light weight and low cost, which makes them one of the most commonly replaced suspension parts. Typical causes of failure include:
- Worn ball joints: The ball and socket wear with use, allowing free play that produces a knock over bumps.
- Split or missing boots: Once a boot tears, dirt and water reach the joint, quickly accelerating wear and corrosion.
- Bent or snapped centre bodies: Potholes, kerb strikes and heavy loads can bend lightweight link bodies, changing their length and sway bar geometry.
- Deteriorated bushed ends: On older designs, rubber end bushes crack and compress, allowing the link to move before the bar responds.
Signs a TS 50 TICKFORD Sway Bar Link Needs Replacing
Worn links are one of the most common causes of suspension noise and are often mistaken for worn struts or ball joints. Watch for:
- A knocking or clunking sound over speed bumps, driveways and uneven roads, especially at low speed.
- Rattling over small, sharp bumps or rough surfaces.
- More body roll than usual, or a vague, delayed feel when turning into a corner.
- Visible free play when the link is grabbed and moved by hand.
- Torn boots, rust around the joints, or a link body that is visibly bent.
If one link is worn, the link on the other side has usually covered the same distance and is often close behind. Replacing front or rear links in pairs keeps both sides of the sway bar working evenly.
TS 50 TICKFORD Front and Rear Sway Bar Links
Most vehicles have a sway bar at the front, and many also have one at the rear. Front sway bar links are typically longer and work through steering movement as well as suspension travel, so they often wear first. Rear sway bar links are usually shorter but can be exposed to more road debris and water.
Front and rear links are generally different in length and joint orientation, so always check the fitting position shown in each listing.
Fixed Versus Adjustable Links
Fixed links are made at a set length to match the original part. They are the simplest, most direct replacement for a vehicle at standard ride height, or one with only minor changes, where the factory length still places the sway bar at the correct angle.
Adjustable links are better suited to lowered or lifted vehicles, upgraded sway bars or performance setups where preload needs to be removed. If your TS 50 TICKFORD sits at or near factory height and you simply need to replace worn links, a fixed link is usually the right choice.
Heavy Duty Construction
Nolathane fixed sway bar links are designed to outlast and outperform worn original equipment. Heavy duty ball joints resist wear and free play, while an uprated centre body is built to resist bending under impact and heavy loads. Sealed boots help keep moisture and grit out of the joints, extending service life on everyday roads, corrugations and wet conditions.
Each link is matched to the original length and ball joint angle for its application, so the sway bar sits correctly and the joints operate within their designed range of movement.
TS 50 TICKFORD Sway Bar Link Replacement
Replacing fixed sway bar links is a straightforward job for a workshop or an experienced home mechanic.
Preparation
Support the vehicle securely. Many vehicles are easiest to work on with the suspension at normal ride height, such as on a drive-on hoist or ramps, so the sway bar is not twisted when the links are removed and refitted. Note the orientation of the original links before removal.
Removal
Undo the nuts on each ball stud, holding the stud with a hex or Torx key to stop it spinning. Old links are often corroded, so penetrating oil and patience help. If a nut will not release, cutting the old stud may be necessary; take care not to damage the strut, control arm or sway bar.
Fitting
Fit the new link in the same orientation as the original. Start the nuts by hand, then tighten them to the manufacturer?s torque specification while holding the stud. Use the new locking nuts supplied with the link. Turn the steering from lock to lock and check the link clears the wheel, tyre, brake lines and springs.
Re-check the nuts after the first few hundred kilometres. A wheel alignment is not usually required after replacing sway bar links alone, but any other suspension work done at the same time may need one.
Limitations and Trade-Offs
Replacing worn links restores the sway bar?s effectiveness, but it does not change the bar?s stiffness. If you want less body roll than the factory setting provides, a different sway bar is required.
Heavy duty ball joints are firmer than some original designs, so a small amount of extra road feel may be noticed, although most drivers find the main change is the absence of knocking. Fixed links are made for factory geometry; if ride height has changed significantly, an adjustable link may be needed. Worn sway bar mount bushes, a bent bar or damaged brackets will also cause noise and play, so inspect the full system during replacement.
Compliance
Sway bars and links affect vehicle stability, so any repair must keep the vehicle safe and within the standards that apply where it is registered. In Australia, requirements vary between states and territories. In the UK and Europe, suspension condition, including sway bar links, is checked at the MOT or periodic roadworthiness inspection. Tell your insurer about any suspension modification.
Nolathane Suspension Experience
Nolathane has been making polyurethane suspension bushings since 1974, originally developed to replace brass bushes in hillclimb competition. More than 50 years later, that experience in suspension control and durability extends to complete components such as fixed sway bar links. They are designed as practical repair and upgrade solutions for mechanics and DIY owners who want to fix noise and restore handling with parts built to last.
Warranty and Support
Nolathane fixed sway bar links are covered by a warranty of 3 years or 60,000 km (36,000 miles), whichever comes first, against manufacturing defects in material and workmanship. Our fitment guarantee means the link you order suits the vehicle and fitting position shown in the listing, and a 60-day returns window gives you time to confirm the fit. Our local support team can help identify the right front or rear link and offer fitting advice.
