Universal Alignment Shims

Alignment shims are precision suspension geometry components used to adjust caster angle at the front strut rod or control arm mounting point, correcting suspension geometry that falls outside the factory specification or the adjustment range available through standard wheel alignment methods. By adding shim thickness at the correct location in the suspension mounting, caster can be fine-tuned to restore correct steering feel, improve straight-line stability and reduce uneven tyre wear caused by out-of-specification geometry.

Supplied in precise thicknesses and available in individual workshop packs and bulk quantities, alignment shims provide an accurate and repeatable geometry correction solution for professional alignment workshops and experienced technicians. Each shim is designed for use with the original equipment mounting housing, ensuring a secure, correct fitment with every installation.

Why Use Alignment Shims?

Caster angle affects how a vehicle tracks and steers, influencing straight-line stability, steering return-to-centre and the overall feel of the steering at highway speed. When caster falls outside the factory specification, either through suspension wear, component replacement or the fitment of offset bushes, correcting it through standard alignment adjustment alone is often insufficient. Alignment shims address this by introducing a measured correction at the strut rod or control arm mounting point that shifts the geometry to the correct specification.

For vehicles where caster-related handling complaints, shimmy or uneven tyre wear cannot be resolved through standard alignment adjustment, shims provide a targeted, repeatable solution that restores correct geometry and delivers lasting improvement. Shim packs allow the correct amount of correction to be dialled in precisely across a range of geometry outcomes.

Universal Alignment Shims Range

The universal alignment shims range includes:

• Alignment Shim Packs, 1.5mm: Individual workshop packs of 10 shims and bulk packs of 100 shims in 1.5mm thickness, providing fine-increment caster correction for applications requiring smaller geometry adjustments.
• Alignment Shim Packs, 3.0mm: Individual workshop packs of 10 shims and bulk packs of 100 shims in 3.0mm thickness, providing mid-range caster correction for applications requiring a more significant geometry shift.
• Alignment Shim Packs, 6.0mm: Individual workshop packs of 5 shims in 6.0mm thickness, providing larger-increment caster correction for applications requiring maximum geometry adjustment within the shim range.

Why Purchase Alignment Shims?

When caster geometry falls outside specification and standard alignment methods are insufficient to correct it, alignment shims provide an accurate, targeted solution that delivers repeatable geometry outcomes without requiring component replacement. Using correctly sized shims ensures the correction is applied at the right mounting point in the right increment, delivering a precise and lasting result.

For alignment workshops and suspension specialists who regularly work on popular Australian platforms, stocking alignment shims in individual packs for single-vehicle jobs and bulk packs for high-volume work ensures the right shim is always on hand when it's needed.

Compatible Vehicles

Alignment shims are compatible with:

• Passenger cars, wagons and SUVs requiring front caster correction at the strut rod or control arm mounting point.
• Vehicles where suspension component replacement, bush upgrades or previous repairs have shifted caster outside the factory range and shim-based correction is required to restore correct geometry.
• Any vehicle with a front suspension design that accommodates shim-based caster adjustment at the original equipment mounting position.
• Alignment and suspension workshops servicing a high volume of applicable vehicles who benefit from having individual packs for single-job use and bulk packs of 100 for ongoing workshop supply.

Installation and Support

Alignment shims are designed for accurate installation within the original equipment mounting housing at the front strut rod or control arm mounting location. Installation time is approximately 1.5 hours, making this a practical repair for professional workshops and experienced technicians. For additional technical assistance, a dedicated support team is available to help ensure correct shim selection, thickness and fitment for the desired geometry outcome.

Repair and Upgrade

Alignment shims are manufactured from high-strength materials engineered to withstand the load and vibration that suspension mounting components are subject to in everyday use. Designed as precision geometry correction solutions, each shim delivers an accurate and repeatable caster adjustment at the specified thickness, restoring correct suspension geometry across the applicable vehicle platform.

Alignment shims are a reliable and long-lasting solution for any vehicle requiring front caster correction beyond the range available through standard wheel alignment methods.

Who Alignment Shims Are For

Alignment shims are the right choice for:

• Professional alignment workshops and suspension specialists carrying out front caster correction on vehicles where standard alignment adjustment is insufficient to bring geometry within specification, including high-volume work across popular Ford Falcon and Territory platforms.
• Experienced technicians and DIY users replacing suspension components, fitting offset bushes or completing suspension repairs where caster has shifted outside the factory range and shim-based correction is required to restore correct geometry.
• Anyone experiencing straight-line instability, steering shimmy or uneven front tyre wear on a vehicle where out-of-specification caster cannot be resolved through standard alignment methods alone.

The right alignment shims deliver precise, repeatable caster correction and restore correct suspension geometry for improved straight-line stability, steering feel and tyre wear every time.
